Picture: Garlic (Allium sativum), a pungently aromatic biennial bulb that is widely cultivated. It is grown for its bulbs, which are widely used in cooking and as a flavouring, and for its oil. The bulbs break up easily into segments known as cloves. Garlic is not known in the wild and it has been so long in cultivation that its origins are unclear.
