Stock Photo: Maize - Red Image ID CFGb929

Picture: Maize or Sweet Corn (Zea mays), a robust annual grass from Central America. Most often this crop is grown for its edible seed heads (cobs), which are used for human or animal feed depending on the cultivar. Increasingly, though, maize is grown for producing biomass for ethanol production or for silage. This is a cultivar with deep golden to red kernels, a colouration that is also seen in the tassels on the cobs.
