Picture: Prickly Pear or Indian Fig (Opuntia ficus-indica), a branching tree-like cactus native to Mexico. Its flat paddle-like stems are studded with spines. The red-tinted yellow flowers are followed by large fleshy fruits that are edible. Prickly Pear can naturalise and become invasive in arid areas and was once a major weed in Australia.
